ART CAN BE FUN
Little Big House is Glenn Ridler’s design and construction. It was first conceived in southern California in 1967 to embody what an archetypal house should be. The three level, 3,000 square foot structure appears to be a one-room cottage.
Little Big House is a sculpture inspired by conceptual artist Alan Kaprow’s writings, Pop Art, Environmental work and basic post and beam construction. The illusionistic, archetypal structure displays inventiveness and most of all humor; and is an attempt to bridge the gap between art and life. The utilitarian nature of the work alongside its composition is one of the unique qualities of Little Big House.
Little Big House has been Glenn’s most consuming work of art. The ground floor has the gallery and workspace, the main living space is on the middle floor and the third floor is an extremely large attic. Construction began in 1972. In 1995 an addition was added to the side and the back of the original structure and the vision was complete in 2005.
Little Big House: Why, How, Who is the story of the house in Ridler's own words. The 21 page soft cover book includes illustrations. The book may be purchased for $25 by emailing a request to littlebighousegallery@gmail.com
